Fire & Smoke Questions
The fire has been extinguished, now what do I do?
Contact your insurance company immediately. It is your responsibility
to begin loss mitigation, including steps to prevent the damage
from getting worse. Take inventory of damaged goods before discarding
anything and save receipts for money spent relating to the fire
loss.
Can I clean my own home after I have experienced a fire or smoke
damage/loss?
Remember, in many cases, attempting the cleanup process yourself
will only make matters worse. Certified technicians have the experience,
training, and knowledge to assess the damage and restore your belongings.
Will my upholstery be cleaned after I experience a loss?
Most upholstery can be cleaned using an upholstery pre-spray followed
by cleaning with a specially designed wand. Some fabrics are more
delicate such as cottons and silks, which may require cleaning compounds
made specifically for those types of materials to prevent browning
or yellowing of the material. We can test your fabric to determine
its composition if you are unsure what it is made of.
Fire & Smoke Tips
-
Blow off or brush-vacuum loose soot particles from upholstery,
drapes, and carpets.
-
Discard open food packages. The food could be contaminated.
-
Change furnace filter.
-
Limit the movement in the structure to prevent soot particles
from being impregnated into the upholstery and carpets. Keep
hands clean - soot on your hands can impregnate upholstery,
walls and woodwork causing more damage.
-
Open windows for ventilation.
